Avinash is a highly experienced Climate Change and Environmental Sustainability Lead and has been helping organisations, across various sectors, to manage and improve their corporate and operational environmental performance since 2001. Avinash’s ability to translate technical and lengthy environmental requirements into business language and opportunities has enabled him to lead the development of environmental programmes – at strategic and operational levels.Avinash has a values-led and collaborative style of leadership which has enabled him to build high performing teams and inspire transformation across organisations.Over his career, Avinash has delivered environmental sustainability advice and project management on multi-billion programmes and million pound projects– including £2-3bn asset management programmes in the waste & wastewater sector as well as commissioning of on-site renewable technologies on a £20m bus depot construction project.He has also worked at Group-level, for a PLC organisation, overseeing many responsibilities from implementing climate change strategies; managing the corporate programme including developing responses for ESG indices and ratings including – CDP, DJSI and FTSE4Good; technical lead for calculating global GHG emissions and maintaining ISO 14001 certifications across different divisions.Avinash now leads Sopra Steria’s internal UK environment department, a team of experts that are helping the business to roll out a centralised strategy and programme for transitioning to net zero. Avinash’s team also work with colleagues, clients and suppliers to improve the environmental sustainability of the services we deliver through client contracts. He has also worked with the Institute of Environmental Management & Assessment (IEMA) Fellows Working Group on Disruptive Technologies & The Digital Economy to develop and launch a thought leadership paper on ‘The role of smart solutions in the transition to sustainability. In 2024, Avinash was appointed by the BSA on their Net Zero Advisory Board.
