LONDON, 2nd August 2022 – Sopra Steria, a European Tech leader recognised for its consulting, digital services and software development, today announces it has acquired Graffica, a specialist provider of simulation products, software systems and consultancy services to the transport industry.
The deal further supports the development of Sopra Steria UK’s transport sector, which has grown from scratch to generating £30 million revenues in just three years. Graffica brings an in-depth knowledge and understanding of systems architecture, proven simulation and modelling capabilities, and transport industry expertise.
The company has 30 employees who specialise in providing research, prototype and validating future systems and concepts. The simulation services complement Sopra Steria’s existing digital twins capabilities. They enable the business to implement operational systems that will enhance the safety and efficiency of the UK’s transport network.
The acquisition offers mutual benefits for both parties. Graffica will have access to additional investment and an extensive client base to potentially double the size of its existing business. For Sopra Steria, the enhanced digital simulation capabilities will help the UK’s transport sector achieve its ambition of becoming a £100 million a year business.
Adrian Fieldhouse, Managing Director of Government and Transport at Sopra Steria UK said:
“The Graffica team have built a huge expanse of expertise in simulation products and systems that are critical to the future of the transport industry in the UK. We’re delighted to welcome their 30 employees to the Sopra Steria UK family. We look forward to working in collaboration with them to pursue the huge growth opportunity the digitalisation of transport provides while also continuing to support the innovative ambitions of our clients.
“Graffica is a great brand which has seen huge success in its 20 years in the market and will retain its identity whilst being provided with the full support and backing of Sopra Steria in order to help it reach its growth potential.”
John Neilson, CEO of Sopra Steria UK, said:
“The acquisition of Graffica marks a significant milestone in our commitment to delivering the best-in-class solutions to the UK transport network. Together, we bring to market the knowledge, expertise and advance technology that will transform the way future transport networks are designed and delivered. A safer, more efficient, and customer-friendly transport system. We know it works because our data-led simulation has already stressed test it before it comes to life.”
Mike Vere, Graffica Director, said:
“Graffica was founded 22 years ago with the ambition of using our simulation expertise and system architecture knowledge as vehicles to improve transport systems across the globe for the common good. We pride ourselves in working collaboratively with our customers, going the extra mile to understand and to clarify their ideas and requirements. We also acknowledge and utilise their expertise to guide us in effective system design, which helps to ensure that we meet and exceed expectations in delivering their concept.
“Applying this approach, we have helped our customers to manage the complexities of real-world systems and operations. We seek to understand the systems and their limitations and to find solutions to arising problems, utilising simulation to anticipate the future and to deliver a resilient, safer, and more efficient transport system.
“We are very ambitious to bring our technology solutions to the UK and beyond. By being part of the Sopra Steria group we have a unique opportunity to build upon our outstanding achievements in this field and will enable us to substantially grow our business in depth within existing markets and across a range of new markets. This is a very positive step into the future for Graffica.”
