Together with our charity partner, Blind Veterans UK, colleagues from our Aerospace, Defence and Security sector/business have conquered the Greatest of all Tal Y Fan (GOAT) challenge in Snowdonia National Park.
Around 65 intrepid hikers from Sopra Steria and Blind Veterans UK, including some of the veterans supported by the charity, took on the 10km and 17.8km routes with some reaching the summit of Tal Y Fan, after a gruelling 6- hour trek.
Together, the team raised a phenomenal £20,000, which will help Blind Veterans UK support ex- servicemen and women rebuild their lives after sight loss.
Sopra Steria and Blind Veterans UK are working together to raise funds for digital and physical equipment needed to help veterans supported by the charity to live full and independent lives. Efforts so far have supported nearly 1,700 veterans with over
5,100 pieces of equipment, across the last year.
“I had the most wonderful time over the whole programme. Each and every one of the Sopra Steria team demonstrated their understanding of our needs, and their willingness to do whatever they can to support Blind Veterans UK. We had laughter, tears,
and lots of banter with the team and ourselves. I enjoyed it so much I would do it again tomorrow” blind veteran Wayne Perry.
“Being supported by Sopra Steria means a lot to us as a charity, and, most importantly, to our blind veterans too. This experience has been so powerful for all involved, and it’s incredible what we’ve achieved together. Partnerships
like this are so meaningful as they enable us as a charity to support our blind veterans in different ways, and to raise the profile of all we do to help veterans rebuild their lives after sight loss” Claire Rowcliffe, Blind Veterans UK Director of Fundraising.
“The GOAT challenge has been magical, representative of everything that’s so special about the military and veteran community. It’s a privilege to work with Blind Veterans UK and to support our veterans in this way. We’re proud
of our strong connection to the armed forces at Sopra Steria and are delighted to be supporting the community in this way” Sue-Ellen Wright, Managing Director (Aerospace, Defence and Security), Sopra Steria
